Cañon City, Colorado is only 25 miles south of Alpine Bluffs. Cañon City is the county seat of Fremont County in southern Colorado. Cañon is home to the scenic and historic Royal Gorge Route Railroad, considered one of the most spectacular scenic railroads in the world.

The Arkansas River hosts more rafters than any other river in the world and is recognized as the number one river in the country for rafting and kayaking. You cn also fly fish for rainbow trout, tour the Royal Gorge Region on horseback, on mountain bike or by foot. The Arkansas Headwaters Recreation Area stretches 148 miles from where the Arkansas River is born to Lake Pueblo.
