Cañon City, Colorado is only 25 miles south of Alpine Bluffs. Cañon City is the county seat of Fremont County in southern Colorado. Cañon is home to the scenic and historic Royal Gorge Route Railroad, considered one of the most spectacular scenic railroads in the world.

BLM Lands are often thought of as being America's Playground and public lands in Colorado are no exception. The BLM manages 8.4 million acres of public lands in Colorado. The agency manages these lands for a multitude of uses including recreation, mining, wildlife habitat, wilderness, energy development, and livestock grazing.

Royal Gorge Railway was established in 1879. The Royal Gorge Route combines Colorado history, spectacular scenery, and unique dining options on a spectacular 24-mile journey through the breathtaking Royal Gorge. Pike & San Isabel National Forests is nearly 3 million acres. It is a busy urban national forest noted for the majority of fourteen thousand foot peaks in Colorado. With 9 Wilderness areas, numerous Scenic Byways and a full spectrum of outdoor opportunities, it is no wonder that the PSICC ranks third highest in the nation for recreational visits.

The Dinosaur Depot Museum in Cañon, CO is located in one of the best places in the world to see fossils and the rocks where they are found. Among the dinosaurs on display, is the world's most complete Stegosaurus! Visit the Garden Park Fossil Area, find out more about the Skyline Drive Trackway Site and explore fossils and how they are found in the Discovery Room.

The Arkansas River hosts more rafters than any other river in the world and is recognized as the number one river in the country for rafting and kayaking. You cn also fly fish for rainbow trout, tour the Royal Gorge Region on horseback, on mountain bike or by foot. The Arkansas Headwaters Recreation Area stretches 148 miles from where the Arkansas River is born to Lake Pueblo.
